Plitvice Lakes National Park

On my first journey (not the first in my life 😆) in this blog, I want to take you through one of the most beautiful and oldest national parks in Croatia: Plitvice Lakes.

Until now, I’ve been to Plitvice 2-3 times and I can tell you, they amaze me with their beauty every time. It is quite a large area, so every time you can find a new path that you haven’t explored yet. Plitvice is said to be beautiful in every season. I mostly went in fall, but I really want to go in winter (I come from the seaside and rarely experience snow in my life, so it would be a pleasure and enjoyment for me 😁👌). I would be very impressed to see the entire park covered with snow, with icicles hanging everywhere, frozen waterfalls. Everything seems so calming, it’s a real winter idyll! And what’s more, there are no crowds like in other seasons, especially on hot summer days. It’s also beautiful in autumn. Everything is full of colorful autumn colors, from browns, to reds and all the way to yellow. I’ll show you a few pictures from the last time I was there. They are incredible!

The last time I went was in fall of 2018 with my mom, dad and my best friend. We tried to convince my brother and his girlfriend from that time to go with us, but unsuccessfully 🤣. When we arrived at Plitvice, I immediately felt the fresh and clean air as soon as I got out of the car, and then I took a deep breath. This is because Plitvice Lakes are located in Lika, and Lika is known for its clean air, untouched nature, and the Velebit mountain from which that beautiful mountain air comes. We had a great time, walking all day in the park and admiring the beauty around us, lakes, waterfalls, trees… Nature is enchanting there!

Because I love nature so much, forests and greenery, I had to take pictures immediately upon arrival 😃:

At one pond, we were surprised by a cute sight: ducks and fish swimming together! The lake was so clear that you could easily see your reflection in it, it’s like a mirror.

And the colors are beautiful - green, blue, turquoise! The lake is crystal clear so much, so that when you watch the fish swimming, you get the impression that they are floating in the sky, they are so clearly and distinctly visible.

Crystal clear lake

Walking further, we come across a beautiful long waterfall falling down along a huge rock, you couldn’t see where it started. The sound of the waterfall is beautiful and so loud that you can’t hear anything else around you (not even yourself 😂), a great experience, I love that sound of the waterfall! 😍

The real adventure was an electric boat ride. It lasted about 20 minutes, and we rode on Lake Kozjak. A great way to observe the entire surroundings and the lake itself. It is a magnificent feeling when you know you are on one of the Plitvice Lakes! 😁

In a boat

Except the boat ride, there is also a train ride at Plitvice Lakes, which is also beautiful. It allows a panoramic view of the lakes and it takes you along paths through the woods, and offers a view of the lakes. That time when we were at Plitvice, we didn’t take the train ride, only the boat ride. We took the train sometime in 2013 (my brother was with us then, he enjoyed it 😂).

As you walk along the paths of the park, you can hear the sounds of smaller waterfalls all around you and they just suddenly appear next to you along the way. But an even more exciting event for me is when I walk through the park, in one part there is peace and quiet, and in another, somewhere in the distance, I hear the sound of a huge waterfall murmurs, something beautiful!

To end our first trip in this blog, I’m posting a few pictures that capture all the beauty and splendor of the autumn colors of this amazing place in the Republic of Croatia: Plitvice Lakes National Park!

Besides, I’m putting a few interesting links for all those who ‘‘want to know more’’ and want to find out additional information about this special place in Croatia. Let’s go and Nature on! 🤟🌲
